According to France Football, Liverpool made a bid of €35m (£29.6m) for Samuel Chukwueze during the January transfer window.

The French outlet, though, says that they tried to sign Chukwueze as well. They made an offer of €35m (£29.6m) but Villarreal, his current employers, want his release clause matched. That currently stands at €65m (£55m).
Shame
Mohamed Salah is currently the number one choice for Jurgen Klopp on the right flank, and rightly so. With 18 goals and nine assists in 33 games in all competitions this term, the Egypt international has once again proven himself to be one of his side’s star players.
Behind him, though, there are a lack of options for the former Borussia Dortmund manager. Xherdan Shaqiri is first in line to come in when the 27-year-old former Chelsea man is unavailable, but it appears that the Reds are willing to let him leave permanently if they receive £25m for him in the summer, and beyond that, 16-year-old Harvey Elliott is the next option. Whilst the teenager has shown promise during his cup outings this term, he is not ready to feature on a regular basis at the top level, whether it being in the starting XI or from the bench,
Bringing in Chukwueze, though, would have given Klopp an option for now and the future. At just 20 years of age, he is only just starting out with his career, yet he already has top-tier experience with his current side. Last season he managed eight goals and three assists in all competitions, whilst this term he has managed four of each. With 1.8 dribbles per game this term, he is not afraid to attack his man, whilst he also has 1.2 key passes per match as well.

It is therefore understandable why the Anfield outfit made a move for the Nigeria international who has been likened in the past to Arjen Robben. They were clearly well short of the valuation this time around, though, and it remains to be seen whether they make another attempt to take him to Merseyside.
