A move to West Ham represents the chance to recapture the form that propelled Phillips to starting for England in a European Championship final. Despite his lack of game-time at City, he has remained a consistent selection by Gareth Southgate in the England team – a decision that had been becoming difficult to justify. However, should Phillips start playing regular Premier League football again it can be expected he would be on the plane to Germany in the summer.
