Gallagher had been one of Chelsea's top performers under Mauricio Pochettino last season, however, the midfielder has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur with the 24-year-old having rejected a contract extension this summer. Chelsea had reportedly offered the Epsom-born midfielder an extension of two years with an option for an additional year.

As per Ben Jacobs, Gallagher rejected the extension offer from Chelsea as the Blues have informed him that he will not have a significant role in Enzo Maresca's side as the Italian prefers a more possession-dominated midfield. As such, Gallagher believes that this will affect his chances to make England's squad for the 2026 World Cup in the United States.
