Manchester United fans had been hoping that their horror season would have a positive ending as the Red Devils reached the Europa League final against fellow Premier League strugglers, Tottenham Hotspur. However, it simply wasn't to be for the 20-time English champions as they lost 1-0 at San Mames with Brennan Johnson scoring after Pape Matar Sarr's cross pinballed off Shaw before the Spurs forward got slight contact on the ball as it headed into Andre Onana's goal.

Shaw has come under a lot of criticism throughout the season due to his constant injuries, hurting the Red Devils' squad options. The 29-year-old did not have the best game, like a lot of other United players; however, the blame for Spurs' winner could somewhat be placed on the England international. Shaw has now published an apology to United fans for the horror season they have had to endure this season.
WHAT SHAW SAID
Speaking to the media, Shaw said: “We’re very sorry for what they’ve had to go through this season. Like I said, it’s been nowhere near good enough, and I can only apologise for that.
“I think we have to look at the positives, and the only positive thing is that we can only go up from here. We’re rock bottom now, and we have to find a way to drag ourselves back and get back to where this club deserves to be.
“I think for a club like Manchester United, it’s not really good enough. I think definitely me and I think all of us have to question ourselves tonight. Are we good enough to be here?
“Because this club, this season, it’s not acceptable. We know that, and it’s down to us. I think we have to look at ourselves. Something has to change.”

Shaw also spoke in support of Manchester United's under-fire coach Ruben Amorim, as the England left-back claimed that the Portuguese coach is the 'right man' to get the Red Devils out of the slump. He added: "I can say 100 per cent right now that [Ruben Amorim] is the right man. I know results have not been good at all.
"I've been here for a long time now and I've been through different managers but Ruben, for me, I talk on my behalf and I'm sure I can talk on behalf of all the players, Ruben is 100 per cent the right manager to take us back where this club should be."
